McLaren has announced details regarding the MP4-12C North American Tour.

Over the next few months, the company will display the supercar at eight dealers across the United States and Canada. Guests will be invited to a cocktail reception, a Q&A session with McLaren representatives, and a private showing of the MP4-12C. The first event, at McLaren Beverly Hills, was a smashing success as nearly 300 people attended.

In a 2m 40s promo, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button get ditched by their engineering team and are forced to put together a Formula 1 car on their own. The video has a few genuinely funny moments, though lines like "What's that?" "What's that for?" and "Where does this one go?" are used over and over again.

Naturally, a mistake is made and Button has to use a mobile phone to call the team and solve a problem. This leads to the eventual tagline, "Jenson and Lewis depend on their team, their team depends on [...]

For the new McLaren MP4-12C the plan is to make only 1,000 of them and keep them rare and precious. But there are already over 1,600 prospective buyers who have signed official letters of purchase intent.

It was announced last September that McLaren would go on to make its own successor to the old McLaren SLR after ending its partnership on that model with Mercedes-Benz. Now, it is closer to debuting its own rival to the Mercedes SLS and McLaren claims sales projections are good.

McLaren has entered the final phase of development for the McLaren MP4-12C.  The company will announce performance details on their new prototypes next month, leading to the car's 2011 market launch.

The company refers to each vehicle as an "experimental prototype," or XP for short.  Shown in the video are the XP8 and XP10, wrapped fully in matte black vinyl, as opposed to black and white camouflage seen on the last round of prototypes.  These vehicles entered testing five weeks ago, according to the company.

McLaren has released a series of images and photos featuring the McLaren MP4-12C. The photos were released along with a redesign of the company's website, which features a detailed animation of the vehicle. The above video of the door's opening was also released.

The animation shows what the MP4-12C would look like if the vehicle exploded apart. Although not available yet, the website indicates that a configurator will become available.
