I was horrified on first seeing this that Autocar was going to a 90-second test drive verdict on the Pagani Zonda R but in retrospect it would have been fun to see them try. What’s there to say, really? The Zonda R represents the Zonda swansong before the new Pagani C9 turns up but that obviously doesn’t mean they shoved one off the production line with a few stickers attached and called it a special edition.

Winning the Nürburgring fastest laptime was easy, considering the amount of work and talent that was put into it. That's the mindset of Horacio Pagani, the Argentinian founder of Italian sports car manufacturer Pagani Automobili S.p.A.

"The laptime of 6:47 that we have obtained with reasonable ease here at the Nürburgring is a confirmation of the skilled work behind every Pagani vehicle," the auto executive said in a new short film released by his company.

A little over a week ago, we brought you initial details and images of the Pagani Zonda Uno, a one-off special supercar commissioned by the Qatari royal family. Those first images barely gave us a sufficient glimpse, but a couple of fresh ones (with some sort of protective film apparently covering parts of the bodywork) and a trio of videos provide the closer look Zonda fans have been asking for.

These are the enticing words appearing at the beginning of this beautifully-shot video clip. In the clip is the new Pagani Zonda R. It does not move or even start up. This is something of a commercial trailer for the super track car which was commissioned to Supercarmovies.com by Pagani.

Somehow the engineers at Pagani have managed to capture the sound of roaring thunder and bottled it into a car. How else does one explain the aural delights escaping from those four steel canons masquerading as tailpipes in the Zonda R? From the moment the engine is started up one realises that very special things are happening under the hood.

Indeed 750 special horses are awakened when all twelve cylinders finally fire up. As the Zonda R moves out of its confines in one of the pit garages at the famed Monza race track one can almost feel the driver's heart [...]

Here are the first images of the Pagani Zonda R out in the open. The car is shot at a race track where in two of the pictures it's parked next to another Zonda. Unless the driver was rain-master Sebastian Vettel this particular run could not have been too fruitful thanks to a visibly wet surface. The Zonda R was naturally devised for the track experience in more ways than the already-high-performance Zonda range was meant to handle. Less than a week ago, an image of the Pagani Cinque was leaked, and now EuroCarBlog has got a few more images, although low resolution. Wearing the black, silver and red livery the Cinque is the made-for-the-road version of the race intended Zonda R. Despite Zonda R production still in the wings, the Cinque will most likely be the last incarnation of the Zonda legacy, before the new car arrives.
