Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid Not Entertaining Enough

It’s nice to see that even SUVs can adopt hybrid technology though we still doubt they will be the cars to save the world should that necessity ever present itself. Tellingly, though, the Cayenne S Hybrid is the first Porsche to get the petrol-electric drivetrain but given the verdict, we’re slightly suspicious that Porsche wasn’t serious enough about producing good hybrid technology on this one.

While the Cayenne S Hybrid is fast, it’s not exciting to drive. And before you ask “who expected a hybrid to be fun”, the technology has come far enough that we could have expected something [...]

Porsche 911 Carrera 4S vs Cayenne Turbo on track video

A sports coupe with the upmost pedigree and its ‘expanding-line-up-with-new-SUV’ brother might not seem like the track partners best suited to each other. But Autocar wanted to find out whether the Porsche Cayenne Turbo could go the distance with the Porsche 911 Carrrera 4S. As the guys say, though, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo has supercar-like performance specs with its V8 twinturbo engine producing 500 hp, such that Porsche claims it shares the same 0-100 km/hr acceleration time as the 911.

But pure acceleration does not a track car make, and so while we can crunch numbers on paper, Autocar took them [...]

Hyundai challenges Mini at Road Atlanta, wants to step in for Porsche

Mini USA is looking for a race – more specifically they’re looking for a race with Porsche. However, Porsche has respectfully declined Mini’s challenge to race a Porsche 911 Carrera S against a Mini Cooper S, simply because the Stuttgart automaker believes its not worth their time.

Well, Hyundai is now looking to step in for Porsche and has challenged Mini to take on the Genesis Coupe. Hyundai’s video message ends with saying “Our driver’s a bit busy this week preparing to set the World Record at Pikes Peak… but July is looking good.”

Mini is hoping to race Porsche this coming [...]

The world's slowest Porsche - Ferdinand GT3 RS

Here is a video showing the new Ferdinand GT3 RS, a zero-emissions car named after the legendary Porsche founder. Unfortunately the car has nothing to do with Porsche, other than being shaped like a 911.

It features a "gold-painted" exterior, has a big rear wing and "massive air inlets at the front spoiler to save the driver from sweating too much." Amazingly it weighs just 99.6kg (219.6 lbs). Even more amazing is that it does not have an engine, "because of economic reasons."

Watch as the presenter takes us through a walkabout presentation and a drive around the race track. Ferdinand is [...]

New Porsche Cayenne TV commercial

Porsche Cayenne tv commercial which focuses on the different definitions of the Utility part of SUV. The Cayenne has never seemed particularly Porsche to me, but the success of this vehicle for the company shouldn’t be underestimated. This ad proves just how much Porsche believes (sales considering) that the Cayenne is really part of the family and represents the Porsche brand like any other sports coupé in the lineup. The new Cayenne is an impressive development on the previous generation and should prove every bit as successful.

Ferrari 458 Italia vs. Porsche GT3

Sent over by Señor Chris Harris from EVO were these tasty videos featuring an "unauthorized comparo" between Ferrari's 458 Italia and Porsche's GT3 RS. According to Mr. Harris, "I'm probably banned from Maranello for life. Hey-ho. At least I got to rinse a 458 and a GT3 RS."

HEY-HO indeed.

For an interesting run-through and comparison of these two track-day supercars (Ferrari isn't releasing the 458 Scuderia/track model for a while), check out the vids after the jump. Don't forget, we over here aren't afraid of no stinkin' Ferrari. I'm watching you, Montezemolo. [...]

2012 Porsche Boxster Spied During Winter Testing

Porsche engineers were caught on film recently testing the next generation of the Boxster roadster that is due to be revealed at a major international motor show sometime next year.

Just like the upcoming successor to today's 911 (see the spy shots here), the Boxster prototype looks no different from the current model, but that shouldn't come to as a surprise to Porschephiles that are used to the company's evolutionary approach to design.

The new Boxster will share many parts with the next 911 while the German engineers will most likely try to further reduce the car's weight to improve handling as [...]

Porsche highlights Intelligent Performance of 918 Spyder, 911 GT3 R Hybrid

No doubt about it, the Porsche 918 Sypder was both one of the biggest surprises of the Geneva Motor Show and one of its most memorable vehicles. No surprise, then, that the German automaker has signaled its desire to put the hybrid sportscar into production.

Speaking of which, Porsche is once again hinting at its production goals for the 918 Spyder with a latest advertising campaign, calling the sportscar "The future of motorsport and series production." Doesn't get much more straightforward than that, eh? To go along with the new round of marketing, Porsche has released a new video that [...]

Porsche 911 GT3 RS 40 year drive video

The historical video celebrates the life of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (RennSport), tracing a 40 year history. While we probably identify the first modern model of this kind as the Porsche 996 of 2003, the RS tradition actually started back in 1972. This video describes how the Porsche 911 GT3 RS was created and if you’re a fan, there’s so much footage here that you won’t know where to look.

The video takes us to the second generation 911 GT3 RS which is described as the “definitive track car for the road”. It’s equipped with a 3.8-litre engine with 450 [...]

Porsche at the 2010 12 Hours of Sebring

The 2010 12 Hours of Sebring marks the 50th anniversary of Hans Herrmann's victory at the legendary event in his 1960 Porsche RS 60. This year, the pair of Flying Lizard Porsche GT3 RSRs are on hand to defend their 2009 championship title.

Jörg Bergmeister and Patrick Long, both Porsche factory drivers, discuss what its like to race at Sebring and to be part the Porsche driver legacy. It was a close battle in GT2 last year between the Lizards and Corvette Racing, making this year all that more important.

Also on hand for this year's race is Hans Herrmann, the first [...]

2012 Porsche 911 Coupe and Convertible Spied Winter Testing

orsche is continuing to work hard on the development of its next-generation 911 sports car that carries the internal code name '991'. Filmed here during cold weather testing in Sweden, the new 911 will be offered in both coupe and convertible forms and with a variety of powertrains.

The spy video suggest that the 2012 model year (for North American markets) 911 will be slightly longer and wider but with a lower roofline than the current model. And even though Porsche insiders insist that almost every body panel will be new, well, it's a 911 so don't expect to see something [...]

2011 Porsche Cayenne from all angles

When it comes to the Porsche Cayenne, it's safe to say that the Autoblog team has a love-hate relationship with Stuttgart's hulking SUV. The new Cayenne could win over the haters among us with a Biggest Loser-style 400-pound weight loss program, a new hybrid variant capable of going 97 mph using only electric power and the return of the 500 horsepower turbocharged 4.8-liter Turbo S. Some would say the new Cayenne looks better, too, with heavily revised sheetmetal all around and new, more modern headlights and taillights.

After the jump is a collection of six videos released by Team Porsche for [...]

2011 Porsche Panamera with Base V6 Engine is so Quiet...

By now, you already know what the new Porsche Panamera looks like. Even if you haven't had the chance to see Stuttgart's sports saloon in person, you've seen hundreds of photos and plenty of videos of the V8-powered "S" and "Turbo" variants.

So, what's the first thing you'd be interested in a video showing the new entry-level model with the VW Group-sourced 300HP 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine? Apparently, the answer to that question is what the V6 sounds like. Well, guess what's missing from Porsche's promo film after the jump?

New Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid with Williams-Developed Energy Storage System

If you're wondering why we (or anybody else, for that matter) didn't note that the energy storage system used on Porsche's new 911 GT3 Hybrid racer was developed by Williams in our original post, that's because the Germans 'conveniently' forgot to mention it in their official press release...

Thankfully, Williams issued a separate release informing us about their collaboration with Porsche while the company also noted that the energy storage system was originally developed for use in Formula One by the AT&T Williams team (the KERS system), but now it is focusing on applying the technology in road vehicles through its [...]

VW Group Considering Audi R4 Platform for New Entry Level Porsche - speculation

The R8 started an exciting journey for the Audi brand when it launched into a segment its maker had not competed in before. Soon after rumours of a smaller R8, thought to be called the R4, surfaced. A concept e-tron car unveiled at the recent Detroit Auto Show confirmed that indeed an R4 is in the works.

Now Porsche is considering using the R4 platform as a basis for its newest and smallest model line. Speaking to Autocar, VW Group chairman Martin Winterkorn finally admitted to be looking at a car below the Boxster/ Cayman pair.

"The Porsche model range is firmly [...]
