New Subaru Forester rally car getting warmed up for Dakar

Put the words "Subaru" and "rally" together, and you'll inevitably be flooded with visions of the Impreza WRX STI campaigning in the WRC. This isn't one of those times.

Details are a bit on the scarce side, but what we do know is that Barattero Motorsport and YPF Elaion have teamed up (with a little help from Subaru, we're sure) to compete in the January running of the 2010 Dakar Rally. Their chosen chariot for the epic journey? None other than the recently redesigned Subaru Forester. But it's a Forester in name alone.

Packing a tuned 2.0-liter (JDM-spec) STI boxer four putting [...]

2011 Toyota FT86 - Subaru Prototype Captured on the Nurburgring

The oddly shaped coupe covered in layers of metal and camouflage tape that you see in this spy video undergoing tests at the Nurburgring race track is none other than a test mule for the upcoming Toyota / Subaru co-developed rear-wheel drive sport coupes. Understandably, there's no way of knowing if it's a prototype for the Toyota-badged model that will be previewed at this week's Tokyo Motor Show with the FT-86 Concept or for Subaru's derivative that has yet to be revealed or even named.

Not that it matters as both compact sport coupes will share the same mechanical underpinnings including [...]

Subaru Exiga officially revealed

Commercialisation of the Subaru Exiga starts today in Japan, a kind of crossover between a station wagon and a people mover with the company’s celebrated all-wheel drive.

For the moment the range includes two engines, a 2.0 aspirated one at 150 hp, and a 2.0 turbo with 225 hp destined for the Exiga GT. As promised, to spoil the occupants and underline its grand tourer personality, a series of panoramic roofs will be available, which should enrich the already refined and spacious interior.

Regarding the look of the car, judgement remains subjective, though we can say that harmonious proportios are not really [...]

New Toyota / Subaru Sports Car Officially Announced

The Toyota board announced in July 2007 that they had created a special committee dedicated to creating interesting cars. Of course a committee with that target in mind is bound to spark rumors of all kinds, and today word comes from Toyota that an interesting car is on its way.

Toyota (or Subaru) mentions no specifics in the press release except that it will be based on an entirely new platform, powered by Subaru's horizontally-opposed boxer engine with rear-wheel-drive and should arrive in dealerships by the end of 2011.

The new compact sports car will [...]

The 2+2 small car has been developed by Subaru, Tokyo Electric Power and NEC Lamilion Energy. Tokyo Electric Power hopes to have 3,000 R1e's [...]
